The main objective of the project was the design and implementation of an Effluent Monitoring Programme for 11 Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants and 9 Food Industries’ Wastewater Treatment Plants under the Urban Wastewater Directive (UWWD) 91/271/EEC and the relevant national legislation. The monitoring plan included sampling procedures, chemical analyses, database design and evaluation reports.
The project aimed to assess the current situation and the degree of compliance with the requirements of Directive 91/271/EEC and the terms of the Wastewater Permits of these installations with respect to specific pollutants. At the same time the project contributed to the implementation of Article 15 of the Directive 91/271/EEC.
The tasks that were successfully completed and the services that were provided were:
- Detailed design of the Effluent Monitoring Programme, in respect to sampling procedures, frequency, parameters and chemical analyses
- Elaboration of a sampling template that can accurately record the data relevant to the sampling
- Implementation of the monitoring programme through a number of sampling campaigns and consequent chemical analyses
- Database Design that can store, analyse and present the collected data
- Elaboration of evaluation reports in which the monitoring results were presented, assessed and evaluated and recommendations were made for future actions and measures.
