Equipment - Software

I.A.CO’s privately owned premises are located in a new business area in Nicosia. The equipment and software that we use as valuable tools for the provision of our services include:

  • Computer facilities
  • Computer peripherals, Printers/Photocopiers, other Electronic Equipment
  • Monitoring equipment - Analysis: Portable Electrical Conductivity Meters, pH Measurement Recorders, Water Level Depth Indicators, Samplers and Chemical Analysis Equipment
  • Other field equipment: GPS handhelds (GARMIN Montana 650 & MAGELLAN Meridian), DSLR Camera (Nikon D7000 DSLR with NIKKOR 18-105mm DX VR Lens), HD Sound recorders

  • General Software: Microsoft Office Package, SQL Server, Adobe Package
  • Other Specialized Software: AutoCAD, ArcGIS , HEC-HMS (Hydrological Modeling System), HEC-RAS (River Analysis System), EPANET (hydraulic and water quality modeling within pressurized pipe networks), STORMCAD (hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of sewage networks), HYDROWORKS (hydrodynamic modeling and water quality of water and wastewater pipe networks), GMS (Groundwater Modeling Software), MODFLOW, etc.

Also I.A.CO has developed specialised software in the context of its consulting services.

  • Desertification Vulnerability Indexation, (D-Tool)

This tool is an outcome of the project “Consulting Services for the Preparation of the National Action Plan to Combat Desertification”, a contract signed by I.A.CO and the Environment Department, Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment. The project aimed to help the Environment Department to fulfil the requirements arising from the UN Convention to Combat Desertification as well as the preparation of the National Action Plan to Combat Desertification and mitigate the effects of Drought.

The D-Tool aims to identify the Environmentally Sensitive Areas threatened by desertification through a multivariate approach, based on appropriate indicators for Mediterranean conditions proposed by the EC funded Program «MEDALUS», adapted to the context and data available for Cyprus.

Key indicators - maps were developed and analysed with respect to various parameters such as topography, aspect, geology, soils, vegetation, climate, human activities etc. Each of these parameters is grouped into four homogeneous indicators with respect to their effect towards desertification and a relevant weight factor was assigned. These four indicators that contribute to desertification were: soil, climate, vegetation and management quality indices and the final map of the Environmentally Sensitive Areas to Desertification was developed according to these.

The D - Tool is a very useful tool for the assessment and evaluation of each area in Cyprus in respect to its risk to desertification and also it helps to the prioritization, implementation and evaluation of relevant measures.

  • Ground Water and Surface Water Vulnerability (V-Tool)

This tool is an outcome of the LIFE Third Countries Project “Guidelines to the Cyprus Competent Authorities for Policy Formulation for Sustainable Management of Pig Farming Wastes in compliance with EU Practice”. The project deals with the preparation of guidelines for the Cyprus competent authorities for policy formulation and sustainable management of pig farming wastes in compliance with EU practice.

The V-Tool aims to enable early screening and decision making on the location of pig-farms and on the issue of waste disposal permits on the basis of the vulnerability of local water resources.

The tool is made up of ground and surface water vulnerability maps. The entire system optimizes the use of existing data and provides an evaluation which can be used to direct resources, land use and waste disposal activities to appropriate areas. Furthermore, since prevention is the key to help ensure that the future practices do not result in ground or surface water contamination, the V-Tool constitutes a good planning and management tool in order to help recognize the places where certain human activities pose a higher risk.

In-House Developed Software

Environmental Management Information Systems are nowadays important for data compilation and analysis towards effective decision making.
Many of our projects involved the development, optimization and maintenance support of Environmental Information Management Systems, which proved to be a key service provided to the Client.
