With over 45 years of experience behind him, Iacovos is considered as a specialist with probably a unique expertise in water resources management issues in Cyprus and of similar semi-arid climates abroad. Iacovos was former Hydrologist, Senior Hydrogeologist, and Principal Water Engineer in the Water Development Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment (Cyprus). He participated in most of the projects (Water Planning project, Southern Conveyor project etc.) and feasibility studies for almost all the dams and the development and management of all the aquifers in the island He was also responsible for large scale projects, such as the “re-evaluation of water resources supply and demand in Cyprus (WDD, FAO)” and has extensive experience in the implementation of the Water Framework Directive in Cyprus. He has worked on a large number of hydrological and hydraulic studies Also, he is an expert in master planning of water works and feasibility studies of water resources management, artificial recharge works and flood prevention schemes in Cyprus and abroad (Libya, Greece, Oman, Syria, Jordan, etc). Recent publications include “Groundwater Pollution Control” by WITpress (2000), “Coping with Water Scarcity – Addressing the Challenges” by Springer (2009), “Water Resources Allocation” by Springer (2011).

Ayis has been working since 2002 in the provision of environmental consultation and water resources management services at a mid to senior level in Cyprus and abroad. He has been the project manager for a significant number of projects both for the private and the public sector. He specializes in Environmental Impact Assessment of Projects and Plans and also has broad experience in the implementation of Environmental related European Directives, such as Water Framework Directive, IPPC, Urban Waste Water Directive etc. In addition, he acted as an expert in the design of monitoring plans for water and wastewater and also in the preparation of management plans for Natura 2000 Protected Areas. His overall career and broad involvement in all aspects of environmental engineering establishes him as highly experienced in the organization and implementation of public participation and consultation campaigns on environmental issues. His involvement in a broad range of environmental consulting and water management projects and studies allows him to have a holistic and coherent approach in the projects that he is involved. He is a member of Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber, of the Technical Committee of the Water Problem in Cyprus and a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Scientists and Environmental Engineers in Cyprus.

Angela Nicolaou is a Chemical Engineer with more than 12 years of experience within the firm. She specialises in Environmental Impact Assessment Studies for a wide array of projects and developments including industrial and livestock developments, water and wastewater treatment schemes, large-scale touristic and residential developments, etc. Moreover, she has extensive experience in Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment Studies for a serious number of Plans and Programmes, such as Town and Housing Local or Rural Plans, Management Plans of River Basins in Greece, etc. She has a good understanding of the legislation, operational issues and ways of evaluation of projects or plans in conjunction with their environmental footprint. Angela has also experience in the Environmental Permit granting procedure of various projects such as livestock and industrial developments. She had major participation in the evaluation of the effluent quality monitoring results of wastewater treatment plans under Directive 91/271/EEC for a two years period, in the implementation of the Environmental Baseline Surveys for Cyprus’ two major ports, and the evaluation of the environmental status of various other projects. She also provided consulting services for compliance to the environmental conditions of the opinion of the Environment Department for various industrial/ touristic/ residential projects and services concerning the elaboration of Environmental Due Diligence reports.

Marios has significant working experience in the preparation of hydrological and hydraulic studies for various developments, as well as in flood risk analysis and prevention schemes. He is an expert in the use and various applications of Geographical Information Systems (ArcGIS), in conjunction with the application of hydrological, hydraulic and hydrogeological modelling (ArcHydro, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, MODFLOW, etc).He has also implemented a great number of hydrogeological studies for the protection of boreholes from pollution that are used for human consumption.

Chrysanthi has over 14 years of experience in the fields of Chemical and Environmental Engineering for several projects within the country. She has been involved in the preparation and coordination of Feasibility Studies, Environmental Impact Assessment Studies (EIA) and Reconnaissance Studies, and participation in the design of environmental protection facilities and sewerage networks as well as other various projects. She is also involved in the creation of air pollution and noise models. Furthermore, she worked as inspector for the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment. Especially, she carried out inspections in different IPPC facilities and waste management facilities and examined different complaints concerning environmental pollution.

Athina holds a Biology Degree and a MSc Degree in Water and Environmental Management. She is experienced in the monitoring and assessment of aquatic ecosystems, with the use of bio-indicators. She has also worked in monitoring and mapping of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and has significant field work experience. Athina has worked for the development of the Landscape Character Assessment map of Cyprus and has developed and taught various environmental education materials.

George is an environmental scientist, holding a BSc in Biology (Biodiversity, Ecology and Environment) and a MSc in Ecology Management and Protection of Natural Environment. He is currently a PhD candidate in Biodiversity and Ecology, investigating the distribution patterns of zooplankton in the coastal waters of Cyprus. During his studies and through his professional activities, he has acquired solid background on ecology and management of terrestrial, freshwater and marine environment. Being exposed to a wide range of research topics he has over ten years of professional experience and participated in various national and European research projects and activities (e.g. LIFE, Interreg Greece – Cyprus, Interreg MED, FP7, DARWIN, etc). His experience includes aspects of terrestrial and marine ecology with particular reference to the investigation of benthic and pelagic ecology and biodiversity patterns in transitional and coastal ecosystems, population and community dynamics, evaluation of ecological quality of waters, monitoring and mapping of terrestrial habitats and flora.

Elena, holds a MEng in Rural and Surveying Engineering and a MSc in Water Resources Science and Technology. She specializes in Water Resources Management, Geographical Information Systems, Geography and Regional Planning and Coastal Zone Management. She has extensive working experience in the preparation of hydrological and hydraulic studies for various developments, as well as in flood risk analysis and prevention schemes. She is an expert in the use of various applications of Geographical Information Systems (ArcGIS) in conjunction with the application of hydrological, hydraulic and hydrogeological modelling (ArcHydro, HEC-GeoRAS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), Coastal Modelling tools (Mike 21 DHI) and 2D design software (AutoCAD). In addition to the above she was involved in the assessment of environmental impact of projects and activities (EIA) and plans and programs (SEA). She is a Member of Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) and a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor.

Fotini holds a BSc in Geology and Geoenvironment and a MSc in Environmental Engineering. During her undergraduate studies, she studied the climatic conditions of the Miocene Period, focusing on the Biostromatic and Palaeo-environmental analysis of Pachna formation. Her master’s thesis subject classification was dealing with the phenomenon of salt crystallization in natural porous building materials. She participated in many training courses and seminars, such as the education seminar “Measurement of the impact of Antibiotic Resistance discharge in wastewater and in soil: Ecological aspects”, organized by the University of Cyprus, and the NARNIA – N.C.S.R “Demokritos” training course. She is a Member of Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) since 2017 and Member of The Cyprus Association of Geologists and Mining Engineers since 2018.

Chrystalleni holds a BSc in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Biology. She has over eight years of working experience, mainly involved in research programs through various Governmental Departments. She has been working with the Institute of Agricultural Research, the Public Laboratory, the Department of Forests and has been working at IACO since 2019. She has experience in coordinating research programs, financial management of research programs, progress reporting and laboratory experience in food and soil analysis. The main research projects she has been involved in are: composting and its use in the decomposition of pesticides, the set-up of a pilot collection network for plastic containers from agricultural chemicals, the coordination of actions in areas of the Natura network in Cyprus, and the co-ordination of the creation of Special Environmental Studies, Management Plans and Presidential Decrees throughout the Natura Network in Greece.

Panayiotis is a Zoologist with a Master’s degree in Wildlife Management and Conservation. He has 13 years of working experience in the field, in NGOs and as a freelancer. During his BSc he did laboratory ecotoxicological analysis of feather, fecal and food pellets of Eleonora’s Falcons (Falco eleonorae) in central Italy. His MSc thesis concerned the mapping of nesting and hunting areas of the European Roller birds (Coracias garrulus) in Larnaka. His working experience includes teaching Applied Ecology, conducting outdoor research and laboratory work in Freshwater Invertebrate Taxonomy, monitoring illegal bird-trapping activities, monitoring and assessment of aquatic ecosystems using bioindicators and mapping of oak woodlands. He participated in training courses and seminars such as the “Oil spill management” organized in Brest, France.

Maria holds a degree in Office Administration. She has joined IACO’s team since 2014. Among her responsibilities are to ensure proper flow of office procedures, and support the colleagues in carrying out common office duties.
