in News

The Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment of the under-implementation Policy Statement for the Sovereign Base Areas (Statement of Political Administration SBA), has been completed and submitted to the Town Planning & Housing Department in order to be forward to the Environment Department. The SEIA study has been assigned to IACO in June 2017 and at the current stage (July 2019) is under examination by the Environment Department. Sovereign Base Areas Administration and the Town Planning & Housing Department of the Republic of Cyprus jointly prepare the Policy Statement. The Scope of the new Policy Statement is to upgrade the current planning and development control regime to meet current needs and promote sustainable development of these areas, in line with the political, military and environmental requirements, as agreed between the SBAA and the RoC in 2014. The objective is the sustainable development of a multisectoral local economy while safeguarding viability conditions, good living standards, environmental protection, adjacent land uses compatibility, in order to sustain or expand the local population without affecting the military developments of the SBA.
