November 2018 – Submittal of the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment for the under-Preparation Area Plan of the Oil and Gas Warehouses in the Urban Area of Larnaka and Livadia
The Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA) for the under-Preparation Area Plan of the Oil and Gas Warehouses in the Urban Area of Larnaka and Livadia, has been completed and submitted to the Town Planning & Housing Department in order to be forward to the Environment Department. The SEIA study has been assigned to IACO in June 2018 and at the current stage (July 2019) is still under examination by the Environment Department. The under-examination Plan concerns a critical area in the wider area of Larnaca Local Plan. The major problem of the Plan’s area is its natural and functional degradation due to the long-term presence and operation of fossil fuel storage / processing facilities, and the consequent halt in the area’s urban development. The general planning strategy of the Plan is the upgrading and sustainable development of the area and its transformation into an organized multifunctional area that will be comprised of individual areas. Moreover, the Plan aims that the area will be a focal point of commercial, office, tourist and services use coupled with functions related to sports, recreation, research and technology, adding to the area its own new symbolism and modern character.
