I.A.CO has signed a Contract with the Ministry of Defense for the elaboration of an Environmental Management Study of the operation of the firing range of the National Guard in the area of “Xintou”.
The scope of the Study is:
(a) The identification of possible impacts on the environment and the quality of life of the inhabitants of the area by the operation of the firing range. The communities adjacent to the firing range include Agia Marina Xyliatou, Potami, Vyzakia, Orounda, Kato Moni and Xyliatos.
(b) The identification, both individually and cumulative, of the potential impacts arising by the operation of the firing range. The impacts which will not be possible to be treated, avoided, mitigated, minimized, restored, reversed or replaced and which will remain serious, permanent or irreversible even after implementing the measures to be suggested, will also be identified.
(c) The suggestion of feasible measures for the elimination or the mitigation of the negative impacts to the environment, as well as the recommendation of measures for the safety of the residents or users of the area.
In addition, a series of sampling campaigns, measurements and analysis for the surface water, the soil, the air, the noise and the vibrations will be conducted.
