Noise Assessment Study for a) the Oil Tanks Complex Installation and b) the LPG Complex Installation of the company HELPE Cyprus Ltd in the Vasilkos Region

CLIENT: ASPROFOS ENGINEERING S.A.

Two separate Noise Assessment Studies were prepared on behalf of the Company Asprofos Engineering SA (Greece), one of which concerns the installation of an oil tanks complex and the other one the installation of an LPG complex on different lots /parcels in the Vasilikos Region of the Company HELPE Cyprus Ltd.

The Noise Assessment Studies were prepared in the context of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Studies of the Projects and relate to the respective development of Noise Diffusion Models for the operation phase of the two installations.

The main objective of these Studies was, on the one hand, the prediction of the diffusion of noise in the immediate and wider area of the installations emitted by the major sources and especially the traffic load caused during their operation, and on the other hand, the prediction of the diffusion of noise in the wider area of Vasilikos which is expected to be cumulatively emitted by the traffic load both with the completion of the installations and with the completion of all the other  planned projects in the area (including the existing and projected traffic load in the area).

For the development of the noise diffusion models in the immediate and wider area of the examined installations, the IMMI software was used.

The noise diffusion model of the Oil Tanks Complex Installation considered the following four Scenarios during operation phase:

  1. Diffusion of noise emitted by the existing traffic load in the immediate and wider area of Vasilikos (Road F405).
  2. Diffusion of noise expected to be emitted by the projected traffic load from and to the oil tanks complex installation.
  3. Diffusion of noise expected to be emitted by the projected traffic load from and to the oil tanks complex installation taking into account the existing traffic load in the immediate and wider area of Vasilikos.
  4. Diffusion of noise expected to be emitted by the traffic load in the wider area of Vasilikos based on the projected vehicular traffic in the full development phase of the area of Vasilikos. The projected flows for the year 2030 of the Master Plan of the Vasilikos area were used.

The noise diffusion model of the LPG Complex Installation considered the following two Scenarios during operation phase:

  1. Assessment of noise levels in the immediate and wider area of Vasilikos expected to be emitted by the simultaneous operation of five (5) pumps and two (2) compressors. This scenario represents the worst operating conditions (worst case scenario).
  2. Assessment of noise levels in the immediate and wider area of Vasilikos expected to be emitted by the simultaneous operation of three (3) pumps and one (1) compressor. This scenario represents the average operating conditions.
