The general objective of the project is to collect, record, and assess quantitative data on the production and management (collection, sorting/storage, preparation for reuse, recycling, recovery, transport/export, and final disposal) of municipal waste (including packaging waste, waste electrical and electronic equipment, and batteries and accumulators) for the years 2021 and 2022, in order to determine the current state of waste production and management from specific sources.
Specifically, the following actions were undertaken as part of the project:
- Categorization of municipal waste according to the European Waste Catalogue (EWC).
- Recording of sources of municipal waste production.
- Recording of municipal waste management units.
- Recording of the quantities of municipal waste by source, management unit, and waste code.
- Estimation of unrecorded producers and quantities of municipal waste.
- Submission of tables by waste category, source, sorting and storage method, processing, transport or export within the EU or to third countries, and final disposal.
- Completion of specific templates for municipal waste with quantitative data for the years 2021 and 2022, and forecasts for the years 2023-2027, for their placement on the Cypriot market as products, as well as their production and management (collection, sorting, preparation for reuse, recovery, recycling, and final disposal).
