I.A.CO Environmental and Water Consultants Ltd together with Marine & Environmental Research Lab Ltd have signed a Contract in late 2023 with the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, for the ‘Review of Coastal Water Bodies of the Republic of Cyprus and their monitoring programs, based on the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC’, in view of the 4th RBMP of the Republic of Cyprus.
The Services to be provided, include the following:
• Review and update of the list required by Article 5.4 of the Environmental Quality Standards Directive and relevant amendments
• Revision and update of the Register of Protected Areas
• Review of Characteristics with regards to the identification, typology, and geography of Coastal Water Bodies, in accordance with Article 5 of Water Framework Directive (WFD)
• Review of the Pressures based on human activities on the status of coastal waters in accordance with Article 5 of WFD
• Review of the Delimitation of Coastal Water Bodies
• Determination of Pressures for each Coastal Water Body
• Identification of Significant Pressures and groups of similar pressure level
• Classification of Water Status (ecological and chemical) of all Coastal Water Bodies
• Review and update of the Heavily Modified Water Bodies (HMWB) designations
• Revision of the Monitoring Program of WFD related to Coastal Water Bodies and cost analysis
